Post by Bunch62 »

Just read Plasticorange build thread. Wished I lived local to him for help and encouragement to finish car. Would really like to get Ross,s help to finish bodywork then similar colour paint job as car is grey.

Hello Dunk
Yes it’s a rover, was 3.5 now 3.9 uprated heads plus cam. Owned car since 1979 has had 4 engine changes but never been on road. Wouldn’t mined an engine like plasticorange but can’t face the hassle of changing it again. Also thought I should just finish it as is for now even leave paint so I can just drive it.

I like the look of a unfinished project on the road, yours definitely has a cool look as is.I wasn’t gonna paint mine but in the end painted myself with one of those electric sprayers for painting emulsion on wallsonly cost me £200 to buy the sprayer and all the paint ,everyone always comments on the paintwork and was the cheapest bit of car

If I could get doors and b post to line up better and some of the rusty areas fixed I might give your idea a go. Trouble is I’m not a bodywork person, I have had a go but it needs the professional touch and equipment or said professional overlooking me and helping where necessary. However most places I know aren’t interested in “restoration” type work.

Have you tried to find a mobile welder to do your patching up,I must admit painting my car was scary, only used rattle can before,I was gonna paint it with mini rollers but watched a few videos of people using these HVLP electric sprayers on YouTube and thought what the hell, give it a whirl,I was lucky as body real good so just scotch brighted and chucked some cellulose on,didn’t even prime it.
