Oil grade??

I have just changed my oil in my minor it's running a newly rebuilt 1300 Marina unleaded engine with 15/40 part synthetic oil is this suitable?? Cheers

I would have thought it should be 20w/50 mineral oil, I could be wrong though.

I'd use 20/50 - modern oil will probably enhance leaks.

As answered in another place - (and by the lads above) 20W50 is THE oil to use.  Nothing fancy required for these engines .  Your 15W40 would perhaps be ok in winter, but a bit too thin for summer use.

Originally when newly delivered A series engines used quite a thin "running in" oil so 15w 40 oil is probably OK for a fresh rebuild. This was intended to be changed after only a few hundred miles.

Normally a mineral (not synthetic) 20w 50  SF-SJ API spec is best to use. The good news that often this can be some of the cheapest oils to buy.  If looking for a good quality one Morris Oils (no connection with our minors!)  Classic car 20w 50 is very good.
