Daily Driver

Postby custommoggy » Fri Jun 05, 2015 3:04 pm

I'm in the market for a daily driver, I was going to buy a 2001 Jaguar XK8 until I looked around and saw the rust on these cars, I want 4 seats, a convertible, and a good badge for about £7k, currently not getting over excited about audi A4s and Mercedes CLK, any suggestions? bear in mind I want style elegance quality and all those attributes that compliment my personality, and please no long bonnet jokes or Ford focus

3 series, 1 Series, Volkswagen Eos or something a little more leftfield like a Lexus 430 or XJS

I drive a A4 Cab and quite enjoy it. I've got two small children and it's been fine for them and has a decent size boot too. If you have a slightly bigger budget you'd be able to stretch to a leggy A5 cab and the interior is a lot nicer than the A4

You could get a good CLK for half your budget. Which has got me thinking now. Makes no sense how a s/h Merc with no rust is cheaper than a good Minor convertible...

Oh, have a look at the Volvo C70 as for your budget you could get the hard top version and even diesel if that's your thing..

Volvos are good if you want to keep it forever, they devalue faster than skodas, rust free mercs 2004 on when they started using galvanised panels.

If you are after an auto I'd avoid Audi like the plague. Forums are littered with tales of woe and I know several people who've had nothing but problems with their auto gearboxes. This is the reason why I went for a manual.

My sister and brother-law have both have got an Audi. My sister has an A5 which after 200 miles and 2 weeks of ownership the oil light came on it went to the garage to be put right then it happened again after a week a week later lost all oil and it melted the pistons and had to have an engine rebuild and there are loads of faults with it and she now going to get rid of it. My brother-in-law has a Q5 and has been back to the garage several times with major faults and he getting rid of his.
