Not sure yet, have to wait till weather & road conditions up here both improve before I take her out. This is engine no.3 - 1st & 2nd ones, 3.5 then a 3.9 both had issues, this is the first Rover V8 that I've got running with good oil pressure & fuelling is now all set up, plus with rebuilt 5 speed, hoping for some fun in the sun. Hindsight might have got me to go down a different V8 route, but when you have everything set up for it, you persevere don't you?
Also need to finish off fitting & painting new grille front panel & reshaping front of bonnet before going back on road & no doubt I'll find a few other jobs along the way.....fingers crossed I will get to this year's MMOs meet in August and a few other more local ones before that.

Performance should be similar to Muj - 14.5 quarters @ 97 mph which equates to 60 in around 6 seconds. Best I got with a mild tweaked 3.5 was a 15.2.
Any faster will require headwork, or forced induction/nitrous as the Rover is expensive to tune over a certain level.
I'm sure if you were doing it again Jim, that you'd go for one of the modern V8's out there, eg Lexus or BMW, both giving around 300hp in standard trim, or at least 100 more than the Rover :D

That's me just back from a rather cold garage - Fabricator Robbie not putting on his fire today, must think the welding he is away to do on my front panel will keep him cosy!

Agree Pete, a modern V8 or even what guys on here are doing with the modern Fords is another option - the professional panel beaters next to Robbies, currently have an Audi RS4 & a V10 BMW in for some repair work - now how long would they notice before either had an engine swap...... ;)

I get over 30 mpg with my LS powered Minor - not sure the 4 cylinder boys do any better. Also, having seen some of the Ford powered minor's times, they'll need to do a lot to catch a V8 up the strip :D

Fingers crossed, that's Mabel home, back together & ready for some serious use this year. Very happy with refurbished front calipers with new discs & pads, all steel front grille blended into wings & the all important rebuilt V8, which ran very sweetly on the 15 mile dual carriageway cruise home.

I'm afraid you won't get enough cooling through that grille - air is viscous and just won't get through the holes smoothly. I suggest you test it by running a fan through it before you hit the road. Grilles with holes like that tend to cause the airflow to bounce off and create massive turbulence. Nice job though.

I know your engine probably puts out a bit more heat than a Midget one but mine is fine with a small Mini Kenlowe between the grill and a standard radiator. (Which is why the slats had to go in the first place). And the fan is still off most of the time.

I appreciate your concern and info, I have two large electric fans in front of radiator (which is a larger capacity 3 core unit) & therefore, same as you Custard, why the slats had to go and with the engine running Evans Waterless coolant, she sits at just over 82 deg and doesn't really move, if she does, the fans kick in at 85 and then she sits back down again. Tried and tested last year and very much so just at the weekend there, when queuing at a drive thru'
Cheers,

I'm looking for ideas to sign write her up as she would have appered in the 1970's as a support vehicle for a small bus and MOT company. Not just putting our modern logo on but had we been in the 70's how would the original livery have been then, you know a sort of "unmodernised" livery. Of course it would have to be sign written with a brush and enamel paint NOT vinyl as todays livery is done.
