My Minors Part 2

Anything goes - chassis, V6's, V8's etc.

Postby plastic orange » Tue Jul 28, 2009 4:21 pm

I found some old pics of Muj when I was filing it's MOT. They are pics I was given when I bought it. The oldest one must be from the 70's/80's and the rest are from the early 90's in it's initial V8 days.

Here's some pics of the harnesses I've just fitted to Muj. I'm getting fed up of the weather here as i don't think I've taken the car out for a drive since It's respray without getting it soaked.

I decided today to start the process of fitting new head gaskets, and started by draining the water. It was -6 here earlier on, so that's as far as I've got
Once the heads are off I'll decide how much (if any) they need skimmed, and I'll check to see if it suffers from the dreaded liner problem.
It started first time too - most impressed as it's not started for a couple of months.

I've been putting it off for ages, so I took both cylinder heads off Muj to replace head gaskets. It does look as though they've both been leaking into the cooling system. I've had heads skimmed 25 thou as I'm fitting composite gaskets (thicker), and have fitted new valves and springs.

Hardest one off:

Still playing catchup with all the back posts since joining---WOW, what an absolutely fantastic project, really stunning you must feel (although I am commenting late) justifiably proud.
It looks just terrific-whats the colour -or have I mis read your posts ?
Those seats do look the biz, I am looking through allsorts just collecting info for my project which starts this April-but I really do like the seats. Now that you have run in them a while how are they now? I am needing to put some non standard seats in that are comfortable to my older bones especially for longer Continental trips.
again just looks fantastic
regards
Cliff

No, I've not been yet. Crail, even on a summers day is freezing - usually windy as it's on the Forth, so I'll wait for a sunny day. My son has challenged me with his Abarth, so I'll choose a quiet day to go. I'll keep you all informed about my times.

I've done around 200 miles in Muj in the last few days, and it's evident that it needs a new cam (excessive tappit rattle at sustained speed), so this is a job for next week once I get hold of one.
I'm after a fast road grind which is meant to give me a 20bhp lift.
