Retropower Minor Build

Post by MartinB »

Don't know if anyone has seen this yet but Retropower are building a Zetec Minor.

They did a cracking Mk1 Escort for Gordon Murray, this should be good but only 200bhp might not be enough.

Nothing to do with me but though it might be interesting.

I've seen comments regarding this on facebook and it was billed as moving the minor on to the next level. I don't really see it's any more advanced than the likes of Robin Beardmore's Minor, nor what Jonathon at JLH does. I kind of took exception to his comments about modified Minors in general as I really don't think he's looked properly at what folk have done. Still, it will be good to see it when finished, and like folk have already said, it may be a bit underpowered. I must admit to being very disappointed with my test drive back in 2005 of a new MX5 that i thought my wife may have liked. I can't recall what company built a full Zetec package Minor a few years ago, it may have been this lot. My main comment on that one was How Much? - and it had a lot of niggly faults.

It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I think it was Texas Mongrel on here did a similar thing to a traveller a while back.

It is a little between camps as they said it wasn't to be an out and out racer but just an everyday car yet the chassis looks like its going spaceframe (ish) then having the body welded to it.

To be honest when I saw the chassis and the way they were basically channeling the body to sit it lower without altering the suspension travel, I thought it was a bit like Horace.

And of course everything is underpowered in relation to Horace. :D

I expect also that as they are getting the engine from Omex they will be benefitting from their collaboration with JLH and with only 200bhp it should be relatively unstressed and run for ever.

Sean.
