I take your points and still find the idea of projecting sensors odd :(
If I was a designer I would be designing sensors and sensor housings that fitted flush with the inner surface and were streamlined to minimise any restriction in flow.
I can't see why they have to be projecting into the flow to measure accurately, as the gas is under pressure and will be pushing against the sides of the exhaust pipe.
Maybe I am overthinking it.
Interesting though :D

Interesting thought , maybe later on..

and as for

I believe that most petrol engines now have them before and after the catalytic convertor for a similar reason.

To answer your question re the brass plugs in the cylinder head.
The brass plus without the holes are there to block the holes which were required to enable the removal of the casting sand.
The two brass plugs with the holes had the same purpose in that the holes they blocked enabled casting sand to be removed and additionally the holes in the plugs allowed controlled circulation of coolant between block and head.

That seems a neat solution and avoids all the hassle regarding fan breather clearance when its on the timing chain cover.

I presume the air filter when fitted doesn't obscure the hole and that the hole is inside the air filter.

Hard to tell from the picture, but have you enough clearance on the exhaust, and also on the black tube through the full range of throttle and choke movement.

You presume correctly , and managed to find a piece of rubber with a nice elbow in it, fits snugly upto the carb without being in the way of the throtle/choke levers , the pipe is about 1 inch away from the exhaust so will wait and see..

They're only placed in the Tee at the moment till final assembly when I'll resin them in...

You will find the nose is too wide to fit through the platen ( which is as hard as Bu**ery )

All together now, had to fab the bendix cover ( 54mm copper ) and before fitting proper will enlarge the hole in the bellhousing to match the cover..

Was ready to torque my flywheel bolts up but my home-made locking tool wasn't up to it , so , thanks to Kevin s ( on the other side ) decided to make a new one , the only thing I had handy was some box section , ( bottom centre )...so thinking cap on and came up with these...didn't need two but as I had to angle grind a 45 degree , thought I might as well make two ( with slightly different lengths to fit different holes )..
