I've never heard of this swap being attempted. You'd be better off using a 1275 A series as it's about the same power as the renault engine without the electrical troubles that afflict french cars. I have seen fwd engines and associated gearboxes used in a Minor, but this involves a fair bit of fabrication. Going auto is always a problem to get rwd these days.

If you are after an auto and going to the trouble of an engine swap have you considered a mazda mx5 1.6 auto?
Engine and gearbox already mated and if you find an early one less electronics to mess with.

HI Steve

Why not use the Datsun engine with the auto that was originally mated to it in the factory? You could go bigger with a Datsun A14 or A15.
This running gear is bulletproof. There are lots like this getting around in Oz. It is a fairly easy conversion and plenty of people here in Oz to provide advice. Corolla RWD running gear is a great option too.

There are lots of nice little engines that look attractive to fit but working out all the details can be a nightmare.

As you know the BMC/Leyland inline 1275 is rare and very costly here in Oz.

I am aware that a guy in the UK put an older Suzuki engine in a Minor and he said it was a very easy conversion.
