Model Shops in Kent region

Postby iank » Sun Mar 15, 2015 3:01 am

Right, well the plan is to be in Tonbridge for 3 weeks or so around June/July next year ( 2016 ) :D , so are there any forum members around this area or beyond for that matter ( Kent/East Sussex ) who can point me in the direction of a shop that sells Moggie models or anything relating to Minors ( the cars that is ) ;) ?. Was very disappointed last time that I didn't see any in our travels around London or Bath, fantastic if you like VW's, but not so good for Moggie lovers :( . Now I realise that I may not have gone to the right places in both instances, but time wasn't on my side; that and the fact it was my first time there. We have not yet discussed what/where we will go or do, but if we do go to a town I will know that there is a shop there that I need to put on the visitation list if you get my drift. I have been on Google and looked for shops, but that doesn't tell you what the have in store and there is nothing like " local knowledge ". Pubs on the other hand are not an issue, indeed there is one a mere 200-300 feet from our lodgings :drunken: .
Any tips appreciated, Thanks, Ian

You may find it difficult to find such a shop Ian, but good luck. We could organise a small gathering for when you are over Ian if you are interested in a meet up. :D

Sorry Ian, hardly know of any such shops in my own region let alone elsewhere in UK. Often good place to find models is car shows but not sure what will be on that time next year, or perhaps car museums?

Organising a little get together is a great idea Mick :D , but we know how pressured these visits are Ian when there are plenty of relatives and must do/see things already on the list!!

Great idea Mick, would be great to put a face to a name for real. The trick would be where to meet as it will want to be some where I can find/ get to easy like and not so far for anyone who wants to have to travel. We still have 14 or so months to sort it out. I am coming with my eldest brother and his wife to visit their Daughter and son in law, so will mention it when we get together next weekend. Maybe we could meet at a pub or :?: as I don't know if they would take too kindly to having their house invaded and I need to keep on the right side of the FREE lodgings ;) . Will just have to keep my eyes open for shops that might sell diecast models and hope there is a Corgi Minor in store :D

There will be plenty of places over in that part of Kent where we can meet up. Plenty of time yet though as you say, looking forward to it. :D

Ian have you looked at Tim Bohan's website: http://www.timsdiecast.co.uk

He's a member on here and although he's in Scotland if you know what you're after you could get him to post to you in the UK. He's just sorting out a new advert to go into the Trader's Section.

I live 20 mins from Tonbridge so keep me informed of your plans. ;)

Ok, thought I would just use this thread instead of cluttering up the forum . Mick, Big Al, have some dates for a meet up next year :) . My sister in law Dianne has got the dates for the time she can get of, so I have to work in with those dates which is fine by me, we will be over between the 23 June - 27 Aug; 5 weeks of fun. Now since this is all free time for me I will work in with you as to when and where we meet up. Weekends are July 30-31+ Aug 6-6, 13-14, 20-21, or if there are any holidays that will fall in this time for you ?. We are having a get together tonight so hope to sort out a time for booking then it will be all go :D , baring anything going wrong between now and then.

Looks like you are around when we have the MMO National Gathering Ian, usually the first weekend in August. Other than that the weekends are good. :D

Some "others" may have their car back on the road by then  -so keep the lists of visits timetables etc, you never know it may coincide with other plans.

Regards

Ok, since we could pretty much rule out the 6th-7th weekend, as you will more than likely be away ( unless the dates are changed ), should we look at the last 2 weekends to meet up ?. Cliff, if you could make it to our meeting that would be better for me, as we have a lot to cram into those 5 weeks, and unless I win the lottery it is more than likely the last time I manage to get over that part of the world, so I need to try and pin down a date as soon as. Should not be too long before we book, as the prices for going have come out, but we have to wait until the coming home prices come out. I have bought a map of South East England so am looking at places of interest on the net and going to the map to find out where they are, it is quite interesting to see that a lot of Historical or places of interest are very close to Tonbridge, it even shows where the speed cameras are.

Hi Ian.

I'm around most days, not just weekends and apart form the annual gathering I should be free.

I could also do the odd day in town if you need a tour guide of the bright lights. I often pop up on photo expeditions.

Obviously a mini gathering with available cars would be good at some time. I live just 25mins from Tonbridge, just around the corner from Chelsfield BR station (20mins by car). I'm a member of the National Trust and I can vouch there is plenty to see in the Kent/Surrey area.

PM me when you get dates etc. I can fit around what's best with you. ;)

6 months and counting :clock: until :brave: :Welcome: to Heathrow sir, did you pack your own bag?. I wonder if there will be any sort of security presence this time, as last time there was nothing once we got our bags. cripes we even had to look for somewhere to declare the food we bought with us, not to mention the postage stamp sized "Duty Free" area that was the size of a corner shop; certianly not what I expected at Englands main, and Worlds busiest Airport.
