Matilda outside the real home in Thirsk of James Herriot (Wight) who wrote the 'All Creatures Great & Small'.

In 1969, a year before Matilda was built, my father was working as the technical director on the film 'The Virgin Soldiers'. I remember visiting some of the sets in the UK and meeting some of the actors. On occasion one of the actors from the film would collect him from our house to go somewhere for filming. I remember a big black Princess pulling up outside and bibbing its horn. Nine years later this actor, Christopher Timothy, became famous for playing James Herriot in the TV series.

Matilda is more a Queen than a Princess and I didn't bib her horn but I thought about it...

Yesterday I had a mini meet with Dave & Sue Cook who brought their Traveller along for the ride. In this photo Dave is doing his 'Man at C&A' pose:

Today I gave Matilda some TLC, her radiator had started to leak, only a little but I replaced it just to be safe:

She's now ready for more adventures over the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales and more importantly the 8th MMO National Gathering next month... 8)

Here's one to try - the Cam Gill road from West Witton (home of the best food pub in Yorkshire) to Kettlewell via Coverdale. The double bend on a 1 in 4 section is a tester! Then return via Kidstones. A grand day out.

I will be trying a lot of new routes out soon but not all in Matilda. Today I collected a new stablemate for her, a 2000 (W) VW Auto Sleeper Topaz over in Morecambe Bay. I brought it back to NY through the Yorkshire Dales. Here is a photo stop at Ribblehead in the distance:

I haven't a name yet, I think it's old enough to have one... :D

Is that instead of the Eriba to relieve Matilda of towing duties?

Hot water as well?

Sean.

Hot & cold water, 2 sinks & a shower but best of all a loo with a view! 8)

I will make my mind up after the Gathering about the Puck. This would be a better bet for trips but I'd have to work out the best way to take Matilda too. If I can't arrange a suitable trailer when I need one I may have to keep the Puck and get Matilda to do the donkey work. Because the gathering is so close to home I can bring this, the Puck and Matilda. The Puck is being loaned for the weekend for another oldie to avoid canvas.

On Saturday Matilda took us both on a 100 mile round trip to the North York Moors Railway where we had a trip on The Moorlander with Pullman Service 3 course lunch. It was a great day out and on the way back Matilda took us the scenic route which included 3 or 4 x 33% hill climbs! Here she is on top of Fair Head Lane that runs out of Grosmont to the A169. Beyond the drop behind Matilda you can just make out the road down below. It can be quite strange being on top of the Moors because the sky is big and horizon flat but beyond that it's a long way down...

Back in May I posted about Matilda taking us to dine on the North York Moors Railway for our 40th anniversary, it was a date set by the lack of available space on the trains at the time. What I didn't let on was that Matilda had been invited, together with her friends in the Yorkshire Dales Classic Car Club, to meet a TV production team at the Ribblehead Viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales.

They met up with the Strictly judges Craig and Bruno and went off for a drive across the Dales. The series started this week on ITV in Cornwall, next week it is the Yorkshire Dales turn. I haven't told Matilda about her missing the chance to be on TV but we did have a wonderful time on the train. :D

Maybe Matilda would have been a bit camera shy anyway - but will be sure to put that programme in my planner.

Love your 'loo with a view'!
