Assembly of rear springs

Postby clackkent » Thu Nov 08, 2018 5:37 pm

I've taken my rear springs apart, cleaned them up and am about to reassemble them with fresh poly bushes. However, I am not 100% sure how the vertical dowel pin that goes through all five leaves is fitted. The pin comes with a collar/distance piece and then two nuts; it seems that the collar fits on the underside of the spring assembly together with the two nuts. This is shown in the attached 7 spring exploded view. Would it be reasonable to assume this also applies to the 5 leaf set up? Its just that when one adds the large rectangular seating bush and the locating plate, the lower end of the pin with the nuts on it protrudes far more than the head of the dowel on top, if that makes sense. Perhaps this is because the lower end of the dowel pin protrudes into the shock absorber bracket?

In the diagram, the pin is no.14, the collar is no.15 and the nuts are nos.16 and 17.

Thanks

It is the same set up.
The pin cannot protrude at the top as it has to be flush or below the axle casing. :)

Sorry , but the pin protrudes both at the top and bottom , your photo does not show the rubber ( or polly ) seating pads which fit either side of the locating plates....you may or may not need the spacer depending on the thickness of the springs and the length of the Dowel bolt.

Carry on, all looks good..

The plates and the rubber pads are the same top and bottom. The spacer is assembled to duplicate the head of the bolt.
