Free play in wiper boxes

Postby starider » Tue May 23, 2017 10:42 pm

Hi, a tip if you have free-play in your wiper boxes. Part of the gear wheel teeth wear over time giving play, the tip is to disconnect the drive cable at the motor, remove the arms and blades, carefully pull out the cable until the splined shaft ends stop moving, turn each splined shaft 180 degrees. Then push back the cable, reconnect the cable in the motor, refit the arms and blades. The cable will then be working on the unworn teeth on each gear wheel...................................starider :)

Good tip. I done this when I put my wipers back together. Also regreased the cable and put a few drops of oil done the spindles till they were smooth.
