Moving horn button

Postby cococola » Fri Aug 11, 2017 6:52 am

I want to move my horn button to the dashboard and wonder if anyone can advise where I pick up the wiring before the steering wheel please.

From memory it should be a purple one in the group coming up the column.

Are you changing the wheel?

If you want to leave all the standard stuff there so it can be put back later you can check which one is live at the horn itself and then just remove the other one and replace with a new length to your switch. Or follow it back and open up the loom under the dash so the loom is altered, but nothing immediately visible under the bonnet.

Technically I think you are supposed to be able to use the horn while still holding the wheel, but I think that is more construction and use and not an MOT test item.

Changing my wheel, along with a faulty indicator stalk was why I went for the Mini stalks with the horn on the end. Though there is a lot more wiring alterations to do.

Purple is only for the horns and there will be two if you have two horns. The purple wires are hot waiting to be earthed and you will hear it when they are.

Ideally I want to pick up under the dash and wire to a new switch.

If I have the old wiring in place I can revert back if needed in the future. I've fitted a banjo wheel and the centre button is dearer than the wheel to buy unfortunately.
