Inertia or static front seatbelts?

Post by Cricket »

I've just bought a 1967 4 door saloon , it has static belts in the front and a lap belt in the back, all of which need replacing. Is there room for inertia reel belts in the front, or would I be best sticking with the existing static fixing points rather than cutting more holes - the dealer I bought it from very clearly thought it should be replacement statics for some reason? In the back I definitely want inertia for my son's car seat, so possibly that's an easier fix? My local garage will be doing the work but have said I should ask you for advice first! Thank you.

There is sufficient room to fit whichever belts you wish. A 1967 car will have the front mounts built in (in different positions to Sleeper's photos) but which will be ideal. Inertia reel belts can be fitted in the rear either with the reel being mounted on the parcel shelf OR inside the boot itself and the webbing running through slots cut in the shelf. This 2nd method takes a little more working out but perhaps looks neater when finished.

Just so. Such work provides the neatest installation probably and I have done the same on my car. Partly this was because the earlier cars (before 1964?) had a higher rear seat back making fitting the rear reel to the shelf less straightforward I felt.
