I'm selling a complete wreck of a golf for the girlfriend,  it was going to be her first car,  but its just too crap.

I've got this message back

"Hello,
Am interested in your Cheap Golf Dirver am offering £100 if my offer is acceptable get back to me,for the shipping i have a shipper that take care of my shipping, for payment do you accept a bank cheque?
STEVEN......

steven.ferguson@yahoo.com
"

How Blantantly is that a scam.     What should I send back to him?   I fancy a bit of a windup

Useful resources here: http://www.419eater.com/html/baiting.htm

You probably shouldn't reply from your real email address - set up a throwaway account just for this purpose, make up a pseudonym, and don't give them your real phone number or anything.

My email has good filters so I'm not too worried about that - besides, they already have it from the ad.

I'm not stupid enough to give away any real details about me,   I have some spare sim cards kicking about tho....

Sadly, I usually just respond with a message saying SWEARING MODERATED off, which will have much the same impact as anything cleverer :(

I used to get oodles of junk/scam mail to the business account e-mail.

Is anyone else getting spam written entirely in Japanese? I'm plagued by it at the moment - usual change of sender/IP address etc, so impossible to block. I'm getting at least half a dozen a day, and I've no idea (not being able to read the language, and having no wish to  follow any links) what they're trying to flog me... Doubtless it'll be the usual size/performance nonsense

Had that a few weeks back, but of late it's all been Halifax Phising scam stuff.
Have you been playing The Vapours single lately?  :P

If you reply with a fake name and email address and don't refer to the specific ad they probably won't connect the two. They send out hundreds or thousands of queries in the hope that a few will be daft enough to fall for the scam.

Most foreign-language spam I get is Russian.

Wouldn't mind that so much - at least I can read/speak a little bit of that :D I know why they do it, btw, just seems even more pointless when there's no hook...

Oh, and it was 'The Vapors' :D, and I do still have it on a vinyl 45
