Re: The true mileage of our Moggies

My 69 pickup had 87,000 on its clock when i got it but the clock was broken. It had been re engined & everything on it was worn out. The pedal rubbers were half worn away. I suspect it had already been round the clock at least once already, I asked my mate who owned it in the late 70's but he coulnt...

Re: The Truck second time around

Good start. I do like the hoist, if it was a bit taller you could pick the whole car up with it :D Sean. Actually you can raise the hoist's mast up, in the photo it is right down, with the jib extended fully it will lift a fridge sized Lincoln tig set onto the back of a flat bed lorry, So yes it ca...

Re: The Truck second time around

More progress, Picked the escort axle up Saturday morning, all there with a set of Munro air shocks, dont know if they will be worth using though. Nick & i spent the rest of the weekend on the truck, pulled the engine & gearbox out & had a tidy up! Putting all the bits in boxes as we go. Cab is all ...

Re: rust killer

My favorite go to rust remover is Citric acid, it can be bought cheap of ebay or amazon, It is probably best used for parts that can be dipped & left in it & does a wonderful job. I routinely use it for derusting old tools & rusty parts & a day or so in the tank they come out with a black coating th...

Re: The Truck second time around

I will be reusing the pickup back sides & the timberwork will be redone as required so yes! I may well reshape the wheel arches a bit but it will be pretty close to its look before. Just taken me all morning to get the right hand door hinges apart. Bottom one was rusted absolutely solid & the pin ha...

Re: The Truck second time around

Well a year has passed & no real progress apart from acquiring parts. Clearing Mums house last year took ages & selling it is taking forever, due to covid everyone official is taking huge amounts of time to do anything. However a few months back i was lucky to find a ford type 9 gearbox at a good pr...

Re: Original Half Shaft Failures

I have broken one on a van & another on my pickup, both were nearside. What i did notice & have seen on several other broken ones as well is that they will wear a slight step where the splined socket in the diff they go into is located. This is a classic stress raiser point where fatigue can start, ...

Re: The Truck second time around

Well not a lot of progress on the truck as back in February my Mum was taken ill. (she is the lady in the B&W photo above) I stayed up north to be with her at this time until she passed away at the end of march from stomach cancer. Of course everything came to a halt while i started sorting everythi...

Van/Pickup Door

Wanted a good nearside door for my pickup, I thought i had a pair of left & right ones stashed away but at some point since i buried them ten years ago one has transmogrified into the other so i now have two offside ones!
The one i have to swap has a bit of light surface rust but is otherwise in vgc.

Re: 1200cc Datson Engine

Seems to be a ton of service parts for Datsun / Nissan engines on ebay. I can see why they are a popular choice in Australia, South africa etc.
Im looking for an engine for my Pickup, anyone got an A12, A13 or A14 engine kicking around?

Re: Traveller window channel

Traditionally used because it was tough & flexible, unfortunately non durable so poor design of drains joints & waterproofing means rot. By now you might have guessed i was a boatbuilder, spent half my life riping rotten wood out of boats!
