Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

Greetings Austin, I'm very sorry to say that I no longer own Myrtle. It's a long sad story and I wish I could have her back. I once owned an Austin A50, new at the time but not fully paid for and I was on the threshold of marrying so finances demanded I downgrade to a used Morris. The marriage was a...

Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

Well the Morris Oxford finally has a name. She will be known now a Myrtle. I wanted alliteration and something old fashioned. I mentioned the name to a friend and within 10 minutes he came back with this: There once was an Oxford called Myrtle Whose name came from rhyming with turtle For her shape i...

Re: Alta Head on Minor MM

Hi Rob, It's good to hear from you, how is your Alta Minor coming? Any pictures? Your message turned up in the junk folder, I just happened to look before nuking - fussyoldfart@gmail is a more reliable way to get me. Is this Alta engine number 18 still running? Graham Holt will be interested to know...

Stupid design

Well, today I had a few unkind thoughts about British Engineers, at least those who designed the special export features. It all began with a simple inquiry into the compression pressures in my Morris Oxford. Easy enough - pull the spark plugs, attach the gauge, crank the engine, repeat. Write down ...

Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

Quite a few of your "Britcoms" make it over here, usually years later on Public Television but we have not seen The Good Life. I like the alliteration and the "GO" part of Margot. Have not had her out in public enough for a personality to come to the fore. The ride from Iowa was sort of "OMG, he's g...

Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

Any snaps from your trip home? Funny about that, once we got moving we seemed to have no time for photography. I did take one shot with my iPad showing how I had lashed down the top of the float bowl with a plastic tie. The nut, and tag and washer had all disappeared. I will have to try to transfer...

Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford more pix

Greetings all, Here I am again with more pictures of my '56 Oxford. I am so amazed and pleased with this one that I can't stop talking about it. It is a good thing there is now a quiet corner of the forum where I can blather away :-) 0_1956_Morris_Oxford_013.jpg 1956 Morris Oxford.jpg P1060624.jpg P...

Re: My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

Thanks for the editorial assistance Al, it's nice to have the good guys in your corner. I wish I had taken a bit more time to edit the text but I think everyone will understand what was meant. Today she, what's-her-name, goes to the appraiser for an insurance evaluation. Now I find out if I got a pr...

My newish 1956 Morris Oxford

This is lovely. I have never had the pleasure of making the first post to a new forum. Of course if I spend too long composing this epistle someone may beat me to it. The Oxford is really quite a find. It was put away in 1963 or 64 to be hauled back into the sunlight in 2004. The man who bought it r...

Re: sorry to be saying goodby

Hey! I don't really have to leave? I'd be glad to hear from anyone whose interests include the Series II or III Oxford. I must say I have had the MO experience too but the OHV versions are vastly better. Could we start a little sub-forum for those who like the larger BMC products?

sorry to be saying goodby

Hello All, It is nearly three months since I have visited this board. Some of you know that I had been trying to sell Millicent, my 1950 MM Tourer, well she finally has a new home in the US. The main reason to sell her is that I have space for only one old car and I have found one that pleases me gr...

Re: 101 years old and still driving

Good find. ;) I wonder if she ever took her driving test, I doubt if anyone would dare ask the old girl... Well. I'm not 101 (yet) but I went to take my first driving test on my bicycle. The examiner had just opened his lunch on his desk. He looked at me, looked at his sandwich and said "Can ...

Alta Head on Minor MM

I thought members might like to know about an Alta Minor that the owner is trying to sell there in the UK. I found his post on http://www.morrisminorforum.com Owner morrisman1 Danny Sharpe of Bristol South Gloustershire Posted Dec 16. There are not many of these left, only 17 running in the world I ...
