Re: New hoist in the garage

Do you mean 45x180 box section? I have considered that.
I wouldn't trust it with anything more than about 250kg anyway, the side timbers are only screwed to the wall.

Re: New hoist in the garage

Well, a day of triumph and failure. After a bit of faffing, I got the engine out. However, purely as a result of my own negligence in failing to support the gearbox, and in failing to check I'd removed ALL the bolts on the bellhousing, I've managed to break the top RH bolt hole off the bellhousing. ...

Happy Birthday!

Oooh, with the Morris being sidelined at the moment, in the garage awaiting an engine lift, I forgot it's birthday

Anyway, better late than never, Happy Birthday to the green machine, 50 yrs old on 13.01.2019!

Well, yes, I'm guessing that all manner of things will end up being lifted by this. But it's a cost effective way of getting the engine out when I don't really have the space to store an engine crane.

New hoist in the garage

Finally finished my garage hoist. It's a 1 tonne chain block mounted on a piece of 90x90mm timber, supported by battens screwed to the walls. The bracket is made from 30x45 angle, and the pin that the hoist is suspended from is made from 2 old rear suspension pins and shackle plates! Going to use it...

Re: Quiet on here

Couldn't resist https://i.imgur.com/jYEa2Uv.jpg There is a chap I follow on Flickr who posts mainly pictures of his lunch. Seriously. Sometimes he varies it a bit, and posts photos of someone else's lunch, or of the group he's with. Occasionally it'll be a photo of a bus or train, some of which are...

Re: Quiet on here

A lot of folk favour facebook rather than coming here. I personally don't like the MMO facebook page and left it a long time ago. There was a thought to close it down in the hope of re-vitalising here, but we had the realisation that another would take it's place so didn't. PO Is it possible to set...

Trailer tents

Anyone got any experience of towing a trailer tent with a Minor?

If so, which make? What's it like as a tent? How was it to tow, and to put up/put away?

Cheers N

Shackle pins

Morning.

Is anyone able to measure a front suspension torsion bar eyebolt please? I need diameter of threaded part & length between shoulders.

I have several spares I want to use for something off the Minor, but can't get to them to measure at the moment.

Thanks,
Neil

Re: Rear spring shackle plates failed

Is the top pin free to rotate? Both pins should be free because as the spring compresses it straightens and becomes longer so the shackle actually rotates slightly. If they don't then they are getting the stress from the spring pushing. Sean. I wouldn't say freely, they were a bit stiff, but yes, a...

Rear spring shackle plates failed

Anyone had this problem? IMG_20180424_142410.jpg IMG_20180424_124841.jpg IMG_20180424_124825.jpg In short, it seems that one shackle plate failed last year, and fell off the car. At some point the other one on that side also failed and fell off. Today, while lifting the car to adjust the rear brakes...

I expect they do. They should be greased every so often, though I've only done it twice in 30 yrs.
